Haitian Relief

image

On January 12, 2010 a magnitude 7.0 earthquake struck Haiti, leaving in its wake devastation so overwhelming that the Haitian people and their leaders can only look for help from the outside to cope. To help make a difference in the lives of those who continue to suffer from the effects of this devastating earthquake, Stampin′ Up! will set aside $2 from the sale of every I {Heart} Hearts stamp set and donate it to the American Red Cross.

Help to make a difference. Order your I {Heart} Hearts stamp set today!  A picture of the images in the set and more information is below.

HAVE YOU ALREADY CONTRIBUTED IN SOME WAY TO THE EFFORTS IN HAITI?

If not, do something now!  Every little thing counts!  Here's a couple more ideas and links to help you if you're not sure HOW to help:

  • SMS text “HAITI” to 90999 to donate $10 to Red Cross relief efforts
  • Make simple blankets or quilts for the children through a local chapter of http://www.projectlinus.org/
  • Donate to Charitable organizations active in the nation --Click here for a link to a LONG list
  • Donate an item to Craft Hope for Haiti to be sold on Etsy and donated to Doctors without Borders.  Click on button for more information.

Soule Mama I think said it best -
"The most important thing, I think, is to do something - in whatever way is right for you! Don't be overwhelmed by the choices, or misled by your seeming 'smallness' - light a candle, sew a blanket, send a dollar...whatever it may be. It matters." --Amanda Soule

***Leave me a comment at the bottom of this post and let others know how you are helping the children and families of Haiti.  I will send you a free tutorial for a Valentine garland next Friday, Jan 30.  Once you have left your comment, email me so I will have your contact information to send it to you.

I {Heart} Hearts by Stampin' Up!

Who doesn't {heart} hearts? Especially the hearts in this delightful set. You'll love them even more when you discover they coordinate with our heart punches! Available in both wood-mount and clear-mount.

I went to Haiti in 2004 on a mission trip to an orphanage in Les Cayes. All we hear about is Port a Prince, but Les Cayes has had devastation too. Here is the blog

Nora is from Michigan and moved to Haiti. Read her Communique's. My help goes to this group.

Hi Carla, My work is matching employee donations up to $100,000. Today and last Friday were jeans day at work at everyone is encouraged to donate a minimum of $5. Last week we donated over $700 so that means $1400+ is on its way to the Red Cross. Hopefully we do as well or better today. I had not paid attention to the Stampin Up offer but will be sharing that with my customers today.

We have made several donations through the Red Cross as well as through church. In addition to the catholic bishop that was killed, 100 seminarians died, the local vicar, and the brother priest of a Nashville, Tn priest, also died. We will continue to make donations weekly through our church's 2nd collection.

What a great idea Carla, it may be just the ticket to help inspire folks to step up and do something to help out the relief effort! I think it's wonderful that so many people are coming up with so many different ways to offer their help! I did a very simple and painless thing by sending the text message 'Haiti' to 90999 and will go ahead and buy the 'I (heart) Hearts' set even tho I wasn't going to! All together, each of our small offerings can creat a mighty effort that can go a long ways to help relieve misery among those poor people! Thanks for stepping up and offering your part! Robin

I loved that my son (11 yo) asked if he could text HAITI to 90999 and would contribute his allowance towards next month's cell phone bill. I told him that was a wonderful idea and that his dad and i would do that as well.

I love that Stampin' Up! is a company that really cares about others!

I am planning on donating blood thru the Red Cross. They will be doing a blood drive in our area. Other's can find out if there are locations near them by loggin onto their web page. It is hard to give financially right now. But it feels good to know I can help in at least this way.

Prayer should never be underestimated in any situation, but crisis is a reminder to remember others less fortunate.

Our church raised over $2500 for the children for supplies, clothing, blankets, water etc. This money was donated to our local Red Cross. I stood on the street corner of our church with countless others and took donations from passing cars. It was fun and the local population was very giving! We are hoping to get everything we need donated, so 100% of the proceeds can go straight to Haiti! My Mom has been an American Red Cross volunteer for my entire life, and has special training as a disaster volunteer!
I can't wait to send them a big donation from all the Zumba fans!!

Everyone needs to do something, anything, a few dollars here and a few dollars there will go a long way.

I am praying for all the people in Haiti. Our church has a missionary in Haiti and he actually came to my home for a bible study on Sunday nights. This man had 4 children and came to the USA to get his degree. We have sent money (from church and us) to a group of people who were scheduled to go visit and work with his church. The school I work at is doing a fund raiser for the money to be sent through the Red Cross.

Also, my husband and I donated to our church's Haiti relief - they already had an operation going on in Haiti, so all the supply lines, etc., are already established - we know it will get where it needs to go. :)
