Take Note...

Been making little notebooks and, ya'll, I've been having so much fun! These are mini composition books that I got at CVS. The lady that works there just loves my son so I sent him in there to wipe them out of their inventory (again!) I''m making these for the upcoming Shamrocks on the Square event in Spartanburg and needed about a dozen more but the store only carries about two or three at a time. So everybody wait till after March 14 before you rush out to make your own!!!

These are pretty simple to make. I first covered the little notebook with DSP using snail adhesive. I cut my paper at 7-1/4" x 4-5/8". This leaves a little overhang that I trim off using my craft and rubber scissors since it's so sticky. I sanded the edges and decorated using a top note die cut, ribbon and embellishments. Now, I'm fixing to get the glue and tape out of my fingernails!! Thanks for stopping by!

Paper: Sweet Always DSP, Sale a Bration DSP, Pumpkin Pie CS, So Saffron CS
Embellishments: Button Latte Designer Buttons, Pretties kit, Flower Fusion Too, Sale a Bration Ribbon Bundle, Chocolate Chip & Regal Rose 5/8" Grosgrain Ribbon, Natural Hemp Twine
Cool Tools: Big Shot with Top Note Die, Birds & Blooms Die, Word Window Punch

Cheep Talk about Spring

I'm supposed to be doing about a million other things tonight besides "playing" but that's just what I did. I have a class on Sunday, a craft fair coming up at Shamrocks on the Square in Spartanburg and a Community Scrap Day and what am I doing? Goofing off.

I had fun making this card because my little Maci Ellen helped with the design and inspiration. She's not done with her work of art so I'm not posting it! Enjoy and think of Spring!

Stamps: Cheep Talk, Short Order Alphabet
Ink: Certainly Celery
Paper: Pretty in Pink CS, So Saffron CS, Certainly Celery CS, Tea Party DSP
Accessories: Soft Subtles brads, So Saffron 1/4" Grosgrain Ribbon, Sale a Bration Ribbon Bundle, On Board So Tweet
Cool Tools: Big Shot & Top Note Die, Square Punch (to punch out rectangular frame), Uni-Ball Signo Gel Pen (polka dot letters and "stitching")

Scrapbook Shabby Chic Syle

These are the two scrapbook layouts that we made at the February scrapbook class highlighting "Shabby Chic." To distress stickers, paper, etc., use the following techniques:

1. Crumple up your paper. If you are using a heavy cardstock, spritz it with water, then wad it up. Let the paper dry then iron with a cool iron if desired.
2. Sand your paper, stickers, etc. Since alot of the media we use has a white paper base, sanding is a great option for aging and distressing. Follow up with some highlighting for added special effects. Stampin' Up! sanding blocks are a great tool for this technique.
3. Tear the edges of your paper. Simply tear the paper or use a tearing tool to save time.
4. Chalking – Brown, black and gray chalk can work wonders to age and “wear” an item. Chalking around the edges of paper and in various spots on the page will produce a weathered look. When you use a chalked cotton ball over sanded paper, the chalk will adhere itself to the sanded grooves. Chalk has a similar effect with crumpled paper by adhering to the raised creases of the paper.
5. Rolling – Rolling paper is another version of distressing. This works best on torn edges of paper. When the edges are torn, you can wet them slightly and then roll them upward. This will add some dimension and creates a nice old and worn look as well.

Stamps: En Francais, A Happy Heart
Ink: Chocolate Chip, So Saffron, Regal Rose
Paper/Stickers: Love Sparkles Simply Scrappin Kit
Accessories: "Dress Up" Ribbon Originals, Flower Assortment Designer Brads, Button Latte, Regal Rose Grosgrain Ribbon, On Board Timeless Type
Cool Tools: Big Shot, Top Note Die, Tearing Tool, Coluzzle Cutting System, Stamping Sponges, Stamping Daubers, Stampin Pastels

Elegant Monogram Card Set Class

March 1, 2:00pm, Carla's house

Cost: $12 for Stamp Club Members, $20 for all others

Skill Level: 3, simple stamping, Craft ink, heat embossing

In this class we will be creating a set of five - 4 1/4” x 5 1/2” cards and a coordinating folder and pen. The folder and all the cards includes the heat embossing technique.

If you’ve ever heat embossed, you know the “wow” you feel when you see the powder melt into a smooth, shimmery image, right before your eyes. If not, you will be amazed by how easily embossing gives an elegant, shiny look to any stamp project. This project uses our line of Craft Inks for embossing. Craft ink is a pigment ink which creates an opaque look on colored card stocks and coordinates with all our exclusive colors! Great for use in scrapbooks as well as on wood, chipboard, fabric and other craft items.

Happy Valentine's Day, Big Shot!

Because you can NEVER have enough to take to school, ballet class, gymnastics class, the neighbor kids and all of your older brother and sister's friends, Maci Ellen and I MADE MORE!

I finally "broke down" and ordered a Big Shot die cut machine. Now I have no idea why I held out so long. I kinda felt like you would be limited with the things you could create since the dies only cut that shape OVER AND OVER. Now that I have one at my workshop, though, I AM SO THRILLED! The treat bag in the picture was made by cutting two pieces of the Pacific Point Card stock (at the same time, don't you love it?) with the Top Note die. We attached the two pieces to a small size lunch sack, punched a hole with the Word Window punch and decorated it.

Maci Ellen wanted to participate in the making of the treat bags - eighteen in all - so I just used some stickers from Target. They are so cute and have shaker windows. Maci Ellen thought the pieces inside were Nerds! Anyway, she punched the hearts herself out of Candy Lane DSP and stuck them on. We filled the little bags with play dough samples, heart erasers and NERDS then tied off the top with ribbon. We just love them and hope her little friends do too.

Shabby Chic

In planning for the upcoming February Scrapbook Class (Feb 22), I have been focusing alot on the shabby chic style. This is the vintage, well-worn and loved look that you've seen in decorating everywhere. You can apply the same principles to your paper crafting too! Shabby chic scrapbooking and card making involve distressing, sanding, inking and other techniques that we will work on at the next class. You won't want to miss it!

This card was made using the same techniques and keeping the simplicity that Shabby chic is known for. Some of the papers and the accent with the sentiment are retired but you could use some of the new papers out now for the same "look." (I just don't have enough sense to make sure what I'm using isn't already retired before I make something for you to see!)

The February scrapbook class will focus on Shabby chic and will use one of the Simply Scrappin' Kits. It will be alot of fun learning how to take those crisp, bright images and make them shabby chic and vintage. Registrations for the class will be posted soon so keep watching!

Stamp Sets: Bella's Bloom (111600)
Paper: Parisian Summer Designer Series Paper (retired), Whisper White (100730), Pink Pirouette (111351)

The Perfect Touch: Soft Subtles Brads (106954, Pink), Ribbon Originals-Dress Up (114217, white), Ribbon Originals-Valet (114318) Stampin' Dimensionals (104430) Accents and Elements

Retro Fresh, Man...

Stampin' Up! is on top of things! The new catalog showcases the latest style trends in home decor, arts, etc. One of the trends is titled "Retro Fresh" and is all about the colors and images from the seventies.

NO! I'm NOT old enough to remember but I watched alot of Nick at Night and I know all about Marsha Brady, okay?

The first card combines the Petal Pizzaz stamp image with Bella's Bloom sentiment for a really simple card. The second card was made using the Petal Pizzaz stamp set and the REALLY COOL Designer Series Paper "Good Morning Sunshine." Groovy, huh? The images on the second card are kinda "shiny" because I embossed them a couple of times for extra shine (like Formica! Ha Ha!) Happy Stamping!
